Fall Plant Decor

It’s almost Fall, and I wanted to share some easy ways to get ready for the season with plants from your own garden.

Fresh Herbs

If you have a generous amount of herbs in your garden, use them instead of fake foliage to add interest to a vignette in your home. Here I used oregano, rosemary, and thyme to add interest to two succulent planters on an old trunk.

Succulent Urn

Repurpose an old urn and plant it with succulent cuttings from your garden. Since you more than likely won’t have drainage in a concrete or metal urn, put 2 inches of lava rock in the bottom to provide drainage. Also, the lava rock will absorb the water and put it back into the soil when the soil dries out. I use 2-3 large succulents in the middle and then filled in this planter with spanish moss and cuttings of Elephant Bush.

Repurposed Toolbox

Similar to the urn above, I repurposed this one of a kind old toolbox with black stain and a stencil and filled it with succulent cuttings and moss.

Halloween Terrarium

Fill the bottom of a beaker with lava rocks and moss and then wrap a 2-inch succulent in wet moss before planting in this fun Halloween terrarium. Use interesting succulents that give a more creepy or Halloween type vibe. You can spray the moss or give it a little water, but be careful not to over water. This terrarium will last all year long or you can repot your succulent in the garden when the Fall season ends.

Corn Husk Wreath

Once your corn harvest is over, don’t throw away the leaves or stalks. I made this wreath with leaves and foliage from the leftover corn stalks in my garden.

Make up a bundle of corn leaves and tassels and using floral wire, wrap it around a wreath frame or grapevine wreath. Layer your bundles every few inches, continuously wrapping them until the entire wreath is filled. Once you are done wrapping up the leaves, use hot glue to glue individual leaves into the center so that you don’t see any wire.

Lantern Terrarium

Fill the bottom of an old garden lantern with spanish moss. Place a large succulent in the middle and then fill around with smaller and more dangly succulents, making sure you incorporate orange and purples for more of a Fall feel. Use this lantern as table decor or on your front porch. Spritz the moss with water when the succulents look like they need a drink.
